Review: Just Another Judgement Day by Simon R Green

Just Another Judgement Day is book 9 of The Nightside series which follows the exploits of private investigator John Taylor as he uses his supernatural gifts to solve cases in the Nightside.

If you’re unfamiliar with this series, here’s a blurb from the book:
In the Nightside, that sour secret hidden heart of London, it’s always three o’clock in the morning and the dawn never comes. Streets full of sin and cellars full of suffering, magic in the air and mystery around every corner; hot neon, hotter music, and the hottest scenes …

Review: Frank Beddor’s Arch Enemy

I discovered the first volume of this engaging trilogy a year or so ago. Aptly titled The Looking Glass Wars, it caught my attention both because of the unique steampunk-y robots on the cover, and because I’ve always loved the story of Alice In Wonderland. Who wouldn’t want to fall down the rabbit hole – if only for a little while?

Review: Soulless by Gail Carriger

Soulless is the first book in the new Parasol Protectorate series, and is Gail Carriger’s debut novel. I’ve had this release on my ‘to-buy’ list for months. The Victorian Era is very big right now, and I’m extremely interested to see what authors are doing with it. I wasn’t at all disappointed with the unique twists in this one.

Review: Trick of the Light by Rob Thurman

Oh, Ms. Thurman how you have confounded and delighted me through the course of your published works. For your first three published novels I was convinced you were male. This is probably not surprising, given your choice of abbreviating your name.

Review: The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker by Leanna Hieber

What can I say about Leanna Renee Hieber’s The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker? I could say that it’s elegantly written, with vivid prose that somehow reminds me of The Secret Garden. One could say that comparison is caused merely by the book’s setting in the Victorian era – but I remain convinced that it’s really the prose.

July Review Round-Up

So many books… So little time! I still have 59 on my TBR shelf – with 3 more on the way! Here’s a brief round-up of the books I’ve read recently. The following books aren’t listed in the order I read them – frankly because I can’t remember the order in which I did!

Review: Black and White by Caitlin Kittredge and Jackie Kessler

Ok, I admit it. I have a thing for superheroes. I have a serious weakness for superhuman powers and shiny high-tech toys. And I always root for those heroes who aren’t afraid (or who are at least willing) to be bad in order to do good.

Review: Strange Angels by Lilith Saintcrow

Strange Angels is a perfect urban fantasy for teens, and has enough interesting tweaks to supernatural stereotypes to keep UF fans of all ages clamoring for more. I’m curious to find out what happens in the next volume.

February Round Up

So I don’t nearly have enough time to review every book that I read, unfortunately. If I did, I wouldn’t have any time to read, and my TBR (to be read) shelf keeps getting bigger all the time! So in the interest of everyone’s time, here’s a short summary of the rest of the books I read in February.
