Times They Are A-Changing

Hello again, readers and fans. I’ve been thinking bunches lately about the future of WFF (and myself). I’ve reached some conclusions, and now that I have a couple of days free to work on some of the goals I’ve set for myself, I’m ready to start announcing my intentions.

I will soon be implementing some changes here at Waiting For Fairies. Don’t worry. We’re still going to host reviews of your favorite upcoming fantasies and urban fantasies. That much isn’t changing, but we’re going to be growing.

I don’t know how many of you are aware that I actually host and maintain three websites. This one, of course; Lunar Meadows , which hosts a sort of lifestream, gathering posts from all across the web;  and Moonlit Glade, my writer’s cave. LM gets the most attention, because I am a Twitter fiend. WFF receives my best efforts, because I love books, the authors who write them, and being able to help promote the stories I love. This of course, means that MG gets sadly neglected.

We’re going to change all that. Within the next few weeks (or possibly even days), Moonlit Glade will be integrating with Waiting for Fairies. That means you will see more content, some of a different kind then you’ve seen here before. That’s okay. Don’t be frightened. Change is good.

Why am I doing this?

Mostly because I have a life and three websites are too much damn work to keep up with. I have a full-time day job, a baby writing career, a husband, friends, and various hobbies. That’s a lot. I’m just glad I don’t have kids.

All three sites were being neglected because of the things above. Also, I am tired of compartmentalizing my life. My original reason for the separate sites was that I wanted to keep a ‘professional’ writing area away from the less formal reviewing that I was doing. I didn’t want my writing voice influenced by the different voice I use for reviews.

This was a stupid idea.

I love books. I’m a writer. Most writers are also readers. Sometimes I write well, and sometimes I don’t. There are times and places for both of these things. Anyone who can’t respect and understand that… Well, I don’t care what those people think.

Other changes in the wind:

I’ll be implementing a series of posts called ‘Rapid-Fire Reviews’. I have several short reviews posted over on Goodreads that aren’t listed here at WFF. Why? Because I felt this website deserved longer, better thought out reviews than those. This was also a stupid idea. Those longer reviews never got written because I’d already said what I had to say about the book. Why have I been generating content for others for free instead of doing it for myself? Because, apparently, I enjoy being an idiot.

The look of WFF will also, necessarily, change. I’ll be moving away from the ‘magazine’-style layout into one that looks more like a blog. The idea is to keep the freshest content rising to the top so that you can find it. Don’t worry, I’ll make sure our archives and search engine are in top-notch shape so you can always find what you’re looking for.

When will all this happen?

  • As soon as I find a WordPress theme that I like and that can be customized suitably for my purposes. Done.
  • As soon as I’m finished customizing said theme. Done.
  • After I’ve managed to integrate the posts already posted on both WFF and MG in such a way that they make sense and work well together. This means also working with categories, plugins, and other such technological hurdles. Mostly done.

So there it is, folks. If you have thoughts or comments, please feel free to share them.
