Welcome to Festivus Kiaras – or the Festival Known as the Month-Long Celebration Before My Birthday! Yes, that’s right – it’s my birthday and I’m hitting a milestone this year. Although. I’m still maintaining that I’m turning 25 (for the 5th time, of course). Shh… I won’t tell if you won’t.
And in grateful recognition of no one mentioning my real age, I’m going to give away a few books. Yes, that’s right. It’s my birthday but I’m going to give you the gifts!
I also thought it was high time that a few authors I feel are under-appreciated are given the spotlight. They all have new releases coming out this month or next, and we’re going to pour on as much publicity for them as we possibly can this month. Then, after the heady glow of my new birthday presents has worn away*, I’ll be giving away copies of YOUR CHOICE of book from each author’s stable.
*This means on or about March 1st or 2nd. I reserve the right to be hung over for far longer than that, though. It is, after all, my birthday. (My birthday being the 28th of February, of course. I keep forgetting it’s not a national holiday.)
The authors are:
- Diana Rowland (@dianarowland) who’s 2nd book, Blood of the Demon is due out February 23rd.
- Rob Thurman (@Rob_Thurman) whose new release Road Kill (Leandros Brothers Book 5) is coming March 2nd.
- Jaye Wells, (@jayewells) also with a book #2, Mage in Black, releasing on March 3oth.
Here are the rules:
- Contest is open to those with an available continental US address only. I know. I’m very sorry, ye olde International Readers, but I don’t have the funds to ship overseas. However, if you have a friend who’s available inside the US to forward your winnings to you, then more power to ya.
- I will draw three names at random from the eligible entries on or about March 1st, 2010 to win one book each.
- If you’re chosen the winner, you may choose any one (1) book from any of the three authors as your prize. Yes, that includes their newest releases – but you will need to wait until the book’s release date. Sorry, but I don’t have an in with the authors or the publishers. (I have to wait on my copies, too, you know!)
- Your book will be purchased from the online retailer of my choice and then shipped directly to you. Once the item is purchased, I am no longer responsible for ensuring the item reaches you.
- Your email address, mailing address, etc. will not be used for anything but this contest.
- I decide what constitutes an eligible entry. Don’t like that? Go play in someone else’s sandbox.
How to enter:
- Post a (well written, contributing, not-spammy) comment on any post on this website with a ‘Posted on’ date in February 2010. Including this one.
- Write a review of one of these authors’ books and post it anywhere. (Some suggestions: your blog, Amazon, B&N.com, GoodReads, Shelfari, etc.) Then come back here to either this thread or one of the ones that will be posted for each other and leave the link to your review. (Review must have been posted after Jan 1st, 2010.)
- Haven’t read any of these authors? You can also tweet this contest on Twitter or post it on Facebook. These links should trackback automatically, but you might want to come back and link them just in case. (Please don’t Tweet or FB this contest more than once a day. WFF is not about spam.)
And I think that’s it. If there are any questions, please post them in the comments.
What a wonderful way to celebrate your 25th Birthday. I read all of these authors and am looking forward to reading their next releases (whether I am lucky enough receive a present from you or not). I have retweeted (QQwill). Happy early Birthday.
Thanks for the birthday wishes! (Sorry I took so long… it took me awhile to debate whether replying would mess up my counts for the contest. LOL)
Torture! I've already put the release dates for Rob & Jaye's books in my calendar, choosing one would be really rough. Since I've read all of their released books already, I'm checking into Diana's book ASAP so I can get another entry by reviewing it.
Thanks! I look forward to your review!
Consider this my entry into the contest of the century. It's the biggest celebration of the most fantastical happening!
Yeah, I'm stressed and incoherent, but I couldn't let this opportunity to wish you a happy birthday slide!
I'm going to have to finish Trick of the Light so I can post a review of it somewhere, since it's awesome and all. 🙂
Thanks, Jo!
Since I have not read their books, I tweeted about the contest (@alebodden11)
Happy Birthday =)
^-^
Thanks for the tweet!
Happy Birthday! I just celebrated the 11th anniversary of turning 29! 😉
Red Headed Stepchild was too far back for me to find the review I wrote, but Mark of the Demon is my Geobooking experiment, so here is the review I posted for that…

As for Rob Thurman, I am just finishing Nightlife and I will be reading Moonshine once it gets to me. Don't ask what I had to do to get the book. *shudder*
*grin* I know what you did to get it, I follow Ms. Thurman on Twitter. She LOVED that smurf pic, from the look of it!
This is the most amazing birthday celebration EVAH! Everyone should celebrate their Bday by giving away books *nodnod*
You just like free books. 🙂 Thanks!
Happy Birthday Month Kia! You are the best ever! I haven't read any of these author's books, but I think I'd be interested in reading Diane Rowland. I know that if you recommend a book it must be good.
I can only recommend what I like, but I'm betting you WOULD like any of these! Try the library if you're not sure.
If I won, I'd choose the next Jaye Wells book since I plan on buying Rob Thurman's next Leandros book as soon as it comes back! I'm really enjoying this series… it's funny (Robin is simply awesome!) and exciting and has wonderfully horrifying monsters! She really makes you feel for these brothers and the difficult life they've lived, the constant worry they have for each other. I'm grateful that you kept bugging me to read them, Kia! Thanks!! :o)
I'm glad you liked them!
Happy Birthday! Great contest! I hope you are showered with books (not literally, cause it would hurt).
Kia you are making it hard to choose here but have not read anything by Diana Rowland and Jaye Wells yet so since that is the case would have to pick Cal and Nico because those Leandros boys are some of my favorite reading material in the last few years since Rob started the gritty rock em sock em series! Happy Whatever Birthday, 25th or ??? does not matter you celebrating it does!
I do not write reviews on the books I read but here is my Goodreads link to a sort of review of Book 4

Happy Birthday!! Great contest and all great authors. I am looking forward to their new releases. The only one I have done a review for is Mark of the Demon – http://donnasbloghome.blogspot.com/2010/02/review…
